I’m a multicultural entrepreneur, author, and innovator devoted to improving the everyday lives of people across Africa. In my 30-year career, I’ve held senior positions at Google and Apple and launched my own entrepreneurial ventures to amplify African voices and influence on the global stage.
While I was born in Liberia, I consider myself a global citizen, having worked, learned, and lived on five continents. I’m a relentless problem solver, with the ability to both recognize untapped markets and to implement practical, innovative solutions to everyday challenges.
At Apple, I successfully developed and executed the company’s Apple Pay strategy in Latin America and subsequently implemented their payment strategy for media products (App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV, iCloud) in Latin America and Africa. I also founded a disruptive digital wallet platform rolled out in Mexico, which was incubated by Google, where I was the first Entrepreneur in Residence. I also began and built one of the first companies to bring mobile cellular service to Africa.
My true passion is Africa. I have an intensive knowledge of and deep appreciation for diverse African cultures, including the needs and aspirations of people there. I see enormous opportunities to enhance the lives of people on the continent as, in the coming years, Africa assumes its rightful place as the global powerhouse it is destined to be. Through Unite in Africa, I’m partnering with industry leaders within and outside Africa to invest, innovate, and accelerate sustainable and inclusive economic growth at the intersection of three dynamic sectors—media, fintech, and AI—across the African continent. My work with Out of Omo brings together innovative thinkers and creative artists to support and expand African culture around the globe.
I am also a published author. My memoir, Learning to Love Africa: My Journey from Africa to Harvard Business School and Back (HarperCollins, 2004), draws on my experiences in Africa, my education in England, and pursuing my MBA in the U.S. My articles have been published in TechCrunch and Harvard Business Review.
When I’m not working, I’m probably running—I’m a former professional marathon runner, and hold the overall Liberian marathon record for both men and women. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my daughter and travel to Africa as often as I can.
